Architectural Glazing

Glass is not always the best solution. In situations where safety is paramount or there is a possibility of striking or falling objects, UV stable polycarbonate or acrylic may offer a better solution. Single or double glazed units thermoformed to shape can be used in a host of situations where strength, security or style are required.

The architectural possibilities are endless with shaped units that are warm, light and shatterproof. Used on balconies, atriums, balustrades and walkways, we can often offer a lighter more aesthetically pleasing solution. Polycarbonate solutions especially mean that a much lighter support structure can be used than would be required for glass.

Glass whether laminated, toughened or wired safety glass, will still break. What we offer is a more robust, flexible and virtually unbreakable solution. Modern coating techniques have made polycarbonate and acrylic a viable alternative to glass, with the added advantages of being unbreakable and formable. They also have the advantage that in environments where there is a possibility of vandalism, crowd surge, riots or attack it offers strength 300 times that of glass. In reality this means that you can’t put a sledgehammer through it no matter how hard you try.

Because polycarbonates or acrylics are both self-supporting and flexible, the weight of materials involved mean that lighter design solutions with improved strength can be introduced.

Ideal in tough public spaces or environments they are well suited to anti-vandal environments, skylights and atrium rooves, security windows and screens, bus and bomb shelters, high crime area windows. They are commonly used in vandal and theft prone areas in schools, business parks, correctional and detention facilities, council properties, banks, jewellers and shops.
